Ultimately - Joseph’s story is God’s story. It’s a story of God’s faithfulness. It’s a story of Joseph walking faithfully, by God’s power, in all things and trusting that God is in control: Faithful in mistreatment; Faithful in temptation; Faithful in being forgotten. Faithful in good times and, ultimately, faithful for a lifetime.
Faithful in good times and, ultimately, faithful for a lifetime.

The Humble King | Luke 4: 14-30
BIG IDEA: Jesus is not the King that was expected; He is the King that was needed.
Will we follow Jesus as He truly is, or only as we expect Him to be?
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11: 28-30
Jesus is the humble King who:
1. Depends on the Spirit. (vs 14-15) God’s power flows through dependence. Humility begins when we realize and admit that we are powerless to control anything.
2. Identifies with the lowly. (vs 16-19) Jesus moves toward the people the world moves past. Who do you move toward?
3. Confronts pride. (vs 21-24) Pride rejects the king it cannot control. We love what comforts us, and we reject what confronts us.
4. Opens the Kingdom to outsiders. (vs 25-30) Grace crosses every boundary that pride tries to build.
“Jesus, shape us as we give up trying to shape You.”
Unexpected King
A Series in the Gospel of Luke
When people think about kings, they usually imagine power, authority, and control. But when Jesus arrived, He did not look like the kind of king anyone expected.
Instead of seeking status, He chose humility.
Instead of surrounding Himself with the powerful, He welcomed the overlooked.
Instead of demanding greatness, He served.
Instead of conquering through force, He gave His life in love.
In this series through the Gospel of Luke, we will discover the surprising and beautiful truth about Jesus: He is not the king people expected, but He is exactly the King we need.
Week by week we will see how Jesus redefines what true authority, mercy, and greatness look like. We will encounter the Humble King, the King who welcomes sinners, the King who restores the broken, and the King whose kingdom turns the values of this world upside down.
As we follow His story, we will be challenged to reconsider our expectations, our pride, and our understanding of what it truly means to follow Him.
Because the more clearly we see Jesus as He really is, the more our lives begin to change.
Join us as we discover the surprising grace, power, and beauty of the Unexpected King.
